Rev. Okpanachi Ebiloma

The Church of Christ in Nations, COCIN LCC Jos Jarawa, on the third day of its annual Youth Fellowship week with the theme; Unity, the key to Christian Youth growth in Christ

DAY 2: TEACHING

TOPIC: Unity and the possibilities in fellowship

TEXT: Matthew 19:16-26

SPEAKER: Rev. Okpanachi Ebiloma

The Guest speaker started his sermon by defining key terms Unity, Possibility, and fellowship

Unity as “the combination of parts to make a whole”

Possibility “something realizable”

Fellowship “the association of people who share common belief”

After taking the reading from Matthew 19:16-26 the guest preacher charged the congregation with some strong points. He said “Jesus said that it was going to be hard but not impossible” which means as youth we should always bear in mind that with God, whatever we desire in our heart is possible.

He added that the mindset of impossibilities is in the mind of those who don't believe in God and all things are possible when we believe in God.

Rev. Okpanachi continued by giving the consequences of impossibility mindset. They are:

  1. Impossibility brings fear and helplessness. 2 Kings 6:14-16
  2. Impossibility brings about complain and grumbling. Exodus 14:9-12
  3. Impossibility mindset will revolt against God and also hinder people’s potentials taking from Mark 9:17-19.

He said in an encouragement note that no one is too small to bring change in the youth fellowship and the church in general.

What makes a person harbor thought of impossibilities?

After listing consequences of impossibility mindset he talked about what makes a person harbor thought of impossibilities. He said whatsoever is in charge of the spirit is in control of your body and soul, and if the Holy Spirit controls ones body he will do according to God’s will.

The program was led by Elizabeth Azi and the closing prayer was said by Rev. Ajang

SERMON NOTES

1) Fellowship is an association of people who share a common believe.

2) Worthy to note is that Jesus only mentioned it was going to be hard, NOT IMPOSSIBLE.

3) As youths we should always bear in mind that with God, what we desire in our hearts is possible.

4) When we have great challenge, we should know that a greater achievement awaits us.

5) Selfishness can be gotten rid of when we agree to walk in Unity

Consequences of having the mindset of impossibility

1) There will be fear and hopelessness (2 Kings 6:14-16)

2) There will be complain and grumbling (Exodus 14:9-12)

3) There will be revolt against God (Numbers 13:30-33, 14:4-9)

4) It inhibits/hinders people's potentials (Mark 9:17-19)

Nobody is too small to bring a change in the church or fellowship.

WHAT MAKES A PERSON HABOR THOUGHTS OF IMPOSSIBILITY?

The spirit at work in an individual. Whatever controls a persons spirit will control the body and soul.

If the Spirit of God dwells in a person, our body and soul will do what pleases God which includes Unity.

WHAT SPIRIT IS IN CONTROL IN YOUR LIFE?
